Emancipation is liberation from slavery related to equal rights in various aspects of people’s lives.
Emancipation must provide rights that are properly granted to a person or group of people who have been deprived or neglected previously.
According to the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, women’s empowerment is equal rights for women to develop and advance in all aspects of life, such as education, economy, social and culture.
Therefore, women have the right to get the widest possible education, as high as possible, so that women can be recognized for their intelligence, given the opportunity to apply their abilities, and not be degraded in front of men.
We also definitely know that the pioneer of women’s emancipation is RA Kartini. Kartini is a Javanese priyayi who wants to rebel against the Javanese court culture which considers women only fit in three places: the kitchen, the well, and the mattress.
According to Kartini, women also have advantages and privileges. He is the first educator for his children so that they can become someone to be proud of in this country.
Kartini as the head of the Indonesian women’s emancipation movement has written a letter to Prof. Anton and Mrs on 4-october-1902, the contents of the letter:,
“We are here asking for efforts to teach and educate girls, not once in a while because we want these girls to be men’s rivals in the struggle for their lives.
But because we believe that they will have a huge impact on women, so that women are more capable. do her duty, an obligation that nature itself has left in her hands: to be a mother, the first human educator.” [Kartini’s Letter to Prof. Anton and Mrs., October 4, 1902]
Kartini has made many efforts to fight for the rights of women in her era. Apart from the perspective of a Javanese priyayi.
The Koran which is none other than the holy book of Islam also has its own perspective.
The Qur’an in the matter of the degree of humanity has placed women in an equal position with men. However, they also have differences from other sides, such as physical and psychological characters.
And the Qur’an also distinguishes the function of the two so that they help each other and further perfect in order to maintain the harmony of life. The Qur’an treats women fairly.
There is no term for women’s emancipation in Islam. Because Islam views both of them on the same level.
Rasulullah saw said, anna al-mar’ata syaqaiqu ar-rijaali, (the woman is a brother). And Allah also distinguishes them in terms of worship and piety only.
We can take the similarities in the two perspectives above. A woman has the same rights as a man. Whether in education, work or otherwise.
But it must also be in accordance with the degree of a woman as a Muslim. That is, you can adjust to your duties as a wife or housewife and if you can’t give a big harm.
Because in fact the Koran is there are many solutions that are the most ideal for life of all time.
